One of the most common signs is dimming or flickering headlights and interior lights. This occurs because the alternator is responsible for generating electrical power to keep the battery charged and supply power to various electrical components in the vehicle while the engine is running. When it starts to fail the lights may become noticeably dimmer or fluctuate in brightness.
Another symptom of a bad alternator is a warning light on the dashboard often shaped like a battery. This light will illuminate when the alternator is not generating sufficient voltage to keep the battery charged. It's an important indicator that should not be ignored. Some vehicles may also display a warning message in the driver's information center.

You may also notice difficulty starting your vehicle or a weak or dead battery. Since the alternator is necessary in maintaining the batteries state of charge while the engine is running, a failing alternator can lead to a drained battery.
Unusual noises like grinding or whining sounds may come from the alternator as it struggles to function properly. These noises may indicate there are internal mechanical issues within the alternator.
If you experience a loss of power to various electrical accessories like power windows, the radio, or the air conditioning, it could be due to a failing alternator not providing enough electrical power to support these systems.
If you observe any of these symptoms, it's important to have your alternator inspected, tested, and repaired or replaced promptly.
