    Oxygen Sensors

Most modern cars are equipped with an oxygen sensor. Also called O2 sensors, they’re vital to both emission control and fuel efficiency. These sensors are a part of the emissions control system, and they feed data to the engine management computer.

Car oxygen sensors are found in the exhaust pipe, where they detect lean and rich mixtures of air and gasoline coming from the engine by monitoring the oxygen content of the exhaust gases. They work by producing a reaction to generate a voltage. The engine's computer checks the voltage to determine whether or not the mixture is lean or rich, and then it proceeds to adjust the amount of fuel entering the engine. It is easy to determine whether the O2 sensor is working properly. If the engine light remains on, it is usually an indicator that you should have the part checked. Similarly, reduced fuel economy sometimes points to problems with oxygen sensors.

Faulty auto oxygen sensors lower the efficiency of your vehicle by allowing fuel-rich exhaust to escape. Symptoms of a failed O2 sensor might include black smoke from a rich fuel mixture, erratic jerking at a steady throttle, poor idle and hard starting issues. Plus, malfunctioning sensors may cause your engine to surge, skip, hesitate and buck, and the exhaust emissions of your car may go far outside of spec. The exhaust of your car may also give off an odor of rotten eggs if your car's sensor is in need of replacement and you have not serviced it for an extended period of time.

We have an extensive line of oxygen sensors for your vehicle, including universal oxygen sensors. To use these, all you need is to follow the instructions on splicing the wires and connecting them to the existing wiring. Check online or stop by a local store for help picking out the part that will best serve your needs.
