    AC Clutches

Let's face it: a working air conditioning system is a must-have during hot weather. But comfort is not the only reason to replace AC clutches. To ensure your vehicle continues running properly, proper maintenance on worn parts is essential, and your AC system is no different. Fixing a broken AC compressor clutch will keep your air conditioner blowing out cool air and ensure that your vehicle doesn't overheat.

AC clutches are found in the compressor, and they're what connects the pulley on the exterior to the pump inside the unit. When the air conditioner in your vehicle is not in use, the clutch allows the AC compressor to freewheel. As soon as the unit is turned on, an electronic signal is relayed to the clutch. This turns on the clutch and causes it to engage with the compressor. The compressor will turn on when this happens, sending refrigerant through the system, and cold air comes billowing out of the vents. This part is instrumental in being able to turn on and off the air conditioner in your vehicle.

When the AC compressor clutch no longer operates, there are several symptoms that you may encounter. When the unit will not turn on, blows out hot air, only blows cool air when moving, or makes noise, this is a clue that you need to replace the part. Broken AC clutches can also cause your automobile to overheat. If any of these issues occur, it's time to invest in a replacement.

While you are testing the clutch, you'll want to ensure that there are no leaks. This may be a good time to replace old hoses, seals, O-rings and tubes that have aged. These spots are often where leaks in the air conditioner surface. Purchasing a leak detection kit will help you to pinpoint any areas where this is occurring.

When you're ready to make repairs to your vehicle, stop by a local store or shop online to find an array of clutch assemblies and related parts for your car.
