This muffler had the same diameter outlet as the exhaust. This required an additional trip to the part store to purchase an adapter pipe. An exact replacement part should not require adapters, but at the very least, I should have been made aware at time of purchase.

Regarding outlet on muffler not fitting inlet on tail pipe
2005 Chevy Silverado Base Truck Short Bed 119" Wheel Base
Walker Sound Solution 18761 muffler
Walker Tail Pipe 55295
Everything was going great until I got to the last connection (tailpipe to muffler)
I could not get them to slip together
I could see that the tail pipe inlet was out of round in one small spot but it did not seem like that could stop me from wiggling it over the muffler outlet.
fast forward 3 hours
I took a dremil with grinding stone to the outside of the muffler outlet. Just on the last 1/8 inch. I could feel a burr and a small lip so I smoothed it out.
For the tailpipe inlet that slips over the muffler outlet I found a 2 7/8" diamond grit hole saw in a hole saw set I had bought at Harbor Freight. It fit perfectly in the inlet of the muffler so I sprayed some teflon lube on it and worked it into the tail pipe inlet. A bit of wiggling and a ball peen hammer later I got the hole saw in about a 1/4". That's all it took. Muffler and tail pipe came together with ease.
There is a $35+ tool you can get to put pipe back into round. I did not have one and did not want to wait 2 days to get it.
Main point is I think the 2 posters that said the inlet of the tail pipe and the outlet of the muffler were the wrong diameter are probably wrong.
My tail pipe came wrapped in cellophane on the ends with some light wait polystyrene to protect the ends. The muffler and intermediate pipes came in a box. I don't think the plastic wrap is adequate to protect the ends of the pipe. Boxing or inserting a scrap piece of pipe would probably be better.
I do recommend you test inserting your pipes part way before crawling under your vehicle for assembly.

will work for 2002 silverado

Installed on my 2002 silverado. I had to hacksaw off the old muffler as close to the old muffler as possible because there are hangers on both sides. The front pipes slid right in and I clamped it (2.75 in.) The rear pipes needed a 2.75in. coupler and 2 clamps (2.75 in.) took 2 hours and 2 trips to advanced
