This muffler was installed on a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The muffler fit *perfectly. I'm not exactly sure why other reviews note the muffler being "too short." Perhaps those folks were working with an exhaust system that was previously shortened to accomidate a longer muffler than stock. That would account for the correct muffler being too short. In any case it was easy to install once the old parts were removed. The removal process can be time consuming and tedious unless you have access to air tools. Lastly, I chose stainless steel due to the fact that all the other mufflers purchased never lasted very long. The North East winters are brutal on exhaust systems.

Too Short
Seemed like it was just right when I looked at it in the store, but when I got the old one off, this one was 6 1/4" too short. That'd be fine for a "hot rod" muffler, but for a "factory fit" muffler, it's no good. I [...] was able to get a piece of extension pipe and another clamp [...] As for installation, I was able to cut the tailpipe (factory welded to the muffler) off with a reciprocating saw, so the extra 6" piece of straight 2 1/4" pipe was able to fit INSIDE both the muffler outlet and the tailpipe inlet, making a good connection on both ends, but requiring a LOT of torque to tighten the heavy-gauge factory tailpipe properly.Unlike previous reviewers, I did not find this muffler to be loud - I think it sounds exactly like the factory one did before it began to leak. So, to summarize: Too short, [...] and the piece needed to make up the length was useful for keeping the factory tailpipe (and saving $$). I think it's very quiet (I'd call it "factory SUV sound level," not "luxury car sound level").

This muffler is just plain loud, and not in a good way.

Don't buy this product for your Jeep
This new muffler is louder then the stock one with the leak. Very dissatisfied but already installed and had to weld the inlet pipe in place so now I'm stuck with this junk.

Exact size, easy install. I work in this field and have specialized tools to make the install straightforward. A novice will most likely struggle, not because of the muffler but because of the difficulty in removing the old components.
