How's it hanging?
This is the band which encircles the muffler mid-body. This formed strap included a carriage bolt and split washer. Removing the old band has probably already occurred traumatically. The ribbon of steel rusts easily and crumbles away. Often, your first sign is a dramatically low hanging muffler and associated rattling. After using the time honored expedient method of a coat hanger...proceed to Advance Auto Parts for a new direct replacement Hardware-Bracket Strap by Walker. With safety jack stands or ramps WITH chocks on the front tires, get it up! Too often the muffler corrodes directly beneath the hanger strap. Check for holes. This is an easy fix project, saving you from swinging unrestrained and causing further problems. Don't forget to bend the tab downward ahead of the rubber retaining block after you're done. Prevents creaping migration.

These dont last too long. Heres how to make it last
These straps do their job well, but will rust out in less than 2 years. Especially if you live where salt, and or Brine is used on the roads. To make the Muffler and strap last much longer, buy yourself some Silicone high temperature exhaust paint. Advance has it.Paint the Muffler, and the strap with it before installing, so you can paint all around it. Make sure to paint the weld seams, and the tailpipe. This paint will help your muffler/tailpipe to last for at least 5 years, instead of strap failure, and most likely a rust hole under the rusted strap through your muffler. The strap hanger should be made of better metal. If you have a rusted out strap, and a small hole under it, it can be saved! Sand the rusted area on the muffler after removing the rusted strap. Fix the hole with some high temp epoxy, or muffler cement. Wire brush rust on the muffler, and seams. Buy a new strap, and paint it. With the muffler hanging down, paint it the best you can with the high temp paint. Make sure to paint the tailpipe and seams where it is welded on. You will get a few more years out of your muffler/tailpipe.
