many years ago I had found and used a product that rected with the rust to create a permanent seal (not a paint) that prevented further corrosion. Do you know of something like that?

Rust treatment will leave a grayish stain on paint, esp light color. Not sure on effect on rubber.
How much does one can cover? I need to do the entire undercarriage of my 2004 Oldsmobile Alero. Approximately how many cans would I need?

I'm not sure. I bought one can for a couple places on my door. To be safe I would buy 3 cans and tell the salesman that you may return 1 or 2 if they are not needed.John
