Rain X will not allow the glue to get sucked in how it normally would due to capillary action or maybe even from the plunger pushing it in. Rain X will weaken the bond a bunch if you manage to get some in. Get it professionally done if you use or have used rain x, even the washer fluid. Some places have stuff to make it break rain x's bond. The alcohol pad WON'T do it! You can buy stuff for it online but its not cheap.

If you dont touch the sticky part of the double stick tape with your finger as you peel it and wipe the plastic T before you stick it they will hold very well.

My windshield had the rain x issue but still got in to some spots. No idea how those will do yet.

I am very detailed about the work I do. I had a very small bullseye on my windshield right in my field of vision so I decided to give this a try instead of spending 40 to 60 dollars on a repair service. I watched the video for this product and followed the included instructions precisely. It all seemed to be going fine until I came to the part where you put a little positive pressure on the repair by pushing the plunger down to its' middle lock position. It was working for about 2 minutes(you're supposed to leave it that way for 10 minutes) when all of a sudden, it blew out at the bottom where the base is glued to the windshield and sprayed the repair adhesive all over the place. I had no choice but to leave it alone for the required time and continue with the repair and see what happened. After it cured in the sun and I cleaned up the mess, all this junk did was fill the surface of the chip with the acrylic adhesive and did not penetrate into the glass at all. Stone chip still as annoying as ever and I probably cannot at this point, get it repaired professionally because of the acrylic stuck in the chip. The stick-on adhesive that is used to hold the base temporarily, to the windshield, is obviously not strong enough for the task(yes, I did clean properly with the alcohol pad prior to mounting it). This product is pure trash. I will contact Permatex regarding this.

It Worked!

By

from Columbia, SC

Comments about Permatex Windshield Repair Kit:

Wasn't sure this would work after reading the reviews, but I followed the directions and it worked great! Of course you can still see a very small mark, but going from a 1/2" rock chip to a small mark is well worth it!

Pros

  • Any average guy can use it
  • Cheap vs a repair service

Cons

Comments about Permatex Windshield Repair Kit:

I don't know why there are so many negative reviews. This product is pretty much foolproof. It is not to completely eliminate a chip or crack but SOLELY to keep it from spreading. If done right it does an amazing job at reducing the imperfection to the naked eye. If you are good with your hands this will be easy to use. IF you are not good with your hands you may just wish to pay a pro to repair the windshield before it spiders on you.

      Best Product! Great results.

      By

      from Goshen, IN

      Pros

      • Great results
      • Stops the crack from splitting
      • Will remove the crack completely/shrink size

      Cons

        Best Uses

        • Cracks/chips roughly the size of a quarter

Comments about Permatex Windshield Repair Kit:

Used on a quarter size chip that was VERY DEEP. This sealed it up to stop it from growing and splitting. This is an easy do it yourself project. Only takes half-hour/hour. If you're looking to get rid of a chip completely, you need to look into a new windshield. This and any pro companies will recommended replacing if you want to completely get rid of the crack.

I was amazed that this product was so easy to use and made an almost invisible repair to a dime-sized rock chip on the windshield. It says it is a permanent repair---I hope so since I know that small cracks will run if left alone.

I had a rock hit my windshield on the interstate and it created a small bullseye. I had never used a product like this before. I was assured by the fine folks at Advance Auto that this would work. It worked amazingly well. There is only the tiniest spot left visible. I feel much better about my window now. Thanks Advance Auto (best customer service ever)!

Comments about Permatex Windshield Repair Kit:

Read the directions and watch the YouTube video that they reference in the paperwork. Then, read the directions again. If you don't have a mechanical background, this might throw you. But once you understand what to do it is very easy.
MAKE SURE to use the alcohol pad (Supplied) liberally! This is what the adhesive seal is counting on. If the damaged area is not thoroughly cleaned, the adhesive ring may not stick. Check the ring (From the inside)for ANY air bubbles before proceeding!
Follow the rest of the directions. BTW. When they reefer to the "second" Notch on the syringe, they mean the one closest to the bottom of the plunger. The first, of course, would be the one closest to the top of the plunger.
Using the razor blade to scrape off the ring after the adhesive is injected and set up is easier said than done. It takes lots of patience and muscle. Take your time. It does come off.
I have had the adhesive in my stone chip for about a month now and no spreading of the crack what so ever. I am hoping it will last through the nest winter. So far so good!
