This thing works
I used this to separate an upper ball joint on my "70 GTO, the usual fork-shaped tool they sell nowadays wasn't thick enough to do the job, maybe theres a thicker version for heavy duty or trucks but i hammered it all the way in and it wasn't thick enough to free the upper ball joint from the spindle.... So I bought this tool, torqued up on it little by little while also using hammer strikes on the the sides of the spindle and it popped free.

Good tool but not for every application
I like the concept of this type of tool but for my application, taking apart a 2008 Ford Fusion, it was not up to snuff. The throat on this tool is tapered with the smallest end measuring just under 5/8". This would work well for 1/2" ball joints. The Fusion ball joints are 7/8" meaty shanks and I couldn't get this installed deep enough into the throat to center the lower finger well enough. Beating it on and deforming the throat to get it deeper I managed to bend the upper finger with my Snap On air gun. It took 5 tons of force in a press to straighten it back out so this tool is tough but just not strong enough for these large ball joints. The loading screw is a 5/8"-18 threaded rod with a ball bearing on the end and the screw would flex under extreme loading but returned straight after loosening so the material has a good temper and is pretty durable. I wish this tool would have done the job for this application I am working on but for the price it is worth having around for possibly another project that may come up.

Works...but had to modify
The tool itself is great. In my case, my 2003 Ford Expedition has a large lower ball joint. The gap on the "v" of the tool was not wide enough to fully insert around and up to the ball joint bolt. I ground the metal inside the "v" to widen and it worked great. Before I modified the tool, it would just slip off the bolt end. I also had to cut off about a 1/2 in of my ball joint bolt to allow the tool to be inserted.

Looked all over and this tool is the best quality for the price! I attempted different ways to remove ball joint nothing worked! Until I bought this tool at advance auto and it worked fast. Thanks so much!

Very useful
In replacing the ball joints on my 2001 Honda Accord, I couldn't stand the idea of hounding on the joint with a sledgehammer any longer, so I bought this tool and it worked like a charm.
