WHEN CHANGING DECK HEIGHT TO 9 INCHES ON SMALL BLOCK CHEVYS AND USING RESURFACED OLDER HEADS THAT HAVE BEN AROUND SOME THE SURFACE OF THE HOLES IS USUALLY BREAKING UP FROM THE HEADS OF THE HEAD BOLTS. USING THESE ALLOWS THE HEAD BOLT TO HAVE A NICE HARD EVEN SURFACE TO TORQUE AGAINST. FOR THE DECK HEIGHT CHANGE IT HELPS KEEP THE DEPTH OF THE BOLT THREADS CONSISTENT IN THE BLOCK .TO KEEP THAT EXTRA THREAD OR SO OUT OF THE WATER JACKETS.WHEN THE BOLTS ARE LONG ENOUGH USING THEM FOR THE HOLES IN THE HEAD THAT ARE BREAKING UP REALLY HELPS THE TORQUE TO BE EVEN AS THEY PREVENT SMALL PIECES OF CAST IRON BREAKING OFF AND FINDING THERE WAY TO THE OIL PUMP. THATS REALLY NOT GOOD .
