Hi, this was my original question and Steve's response:
"I'm having trouble removing the broken lock cylinder. I can't find the small release tab anywhere, though I know there has to be one. Can you tell me exactly where to find it?"

"Hi Oldie! Since you didn't mention the specific vehicle, it's hard to tell for sure. To give you the correct information I would need the year, make, model and engine size of the vehicle."

Hi Oldie, I'm glad to help you! To replace the ignition lock cylinder in your 1996 Dodge Ram 1500, you have to first remove the plastic cover of the steering wheel and to release the lock cylinder tab you need to put the key in the ignition and turn it two clicks and once you turn, you will able to release your lock cylinder. For help with your project, I recommend purchasing a Haynes or Chilton repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.

Hi Walt, I'm glad to assist you! Each manufacturer has unique procedures for installing the new lock cylinder. Make sure to consult your vehicle manufacturer's service manual before attempting this. The lock cylinder is secured to the lock assembly by a button on the bottom of the housing and two screws on top of the lock assembly. Loosen the two screws on top to allow you to remove the cylinder. Once you've successfully inserted the lock cylinder, the rest of the installation process is in reverse of the removal. Tighten two screws on top of the lock cylinder, replace the ignition lock cylinder cover, and replace the steering column covers.
Does this part come with a key?
