I'm happy to help, Backyard MC! You are correct, you will need to have new keys cut for your vehicle.

If the part is a good part, and it was installed right, the key it came with should work properly.

If it has the VATS system (theft deterrent) then you'll need to have new keys cut from the key from the one that came with the new cylinder, it will be evident by a black square and silver stripe in the 'center' of the aft area of the cut part of the original keys. You will have to have the original key for the car so that they (usually the dealership only) will have the right resistance of the 'chip' so that your car can start again.
