This is a perfect controller for those looking to install aftermarket fans. I installed mine in 2007 and it is now 2011. It has been faithfully running both my 16" dual s-blade fans on my 1998 Ford F-150 ever since. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat if it ever went out.

There are not many of these products on the market to choose. Therefore, your stuck buying a product made in china with inferior quality. Works well then after a few months red wiring tends to melt. I was able to exchange on warranty, but it was a big inconvenience and had to do the work in the parking lot of the autoparts to be able to make it home without overheating.

            • Q:

I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 and I entered my truck details before getting the list for Thermostatic Fan Controls. It gives me a list of these Fan Controls, indicating that they are compatible with my truck. That must be wrong. My truck has a large fan in front of the radiator which runs as soon as the engine starts. I think it could be called a mechanically run fan.

                A:

Hello Pete! This adjustable thermostatic fan control probe would be installed into the radiator fins. That said the ECM(engine control module) does this already. We do not sell a 180 thermostat. OEM calls for 195.

                A:

I'm glad to help you, Peter! The Imperial Adjustable Thermostatic Fan Control - Part No. 226204 is not a replacement. This is a universal fan controller used for controlling an electric fan. This should not be used to control the OE fan or OE fan assembly. No, this product will not eliminate any fault codes or signals from the system. I strongly recommend replacing the OE fan assembly if found to be faulty with another OE fan assembly.

Hi Peter, glad to assist you! This part is an exact fit for your 2003 Volvo XC90 and it should fix your engine cooling fan control problem. For help with your project, I recommend purchasing a Haynes or Chilton repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts. However, I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.

I'm happy to help, BigT31! It is possible that replacing your thermostatic fan control with this Imperial Adjustable Thermostatic Fan Control (Part No. 226204) could correct the fan issue that you are having on your vehicle. If you do not already have one, a repair manual may help you diagnose the vehicle. If you need further diagnostic assistance, I suggest speaking to a mechanic to help diagnose the issue you are having with your fans.

            • Q:

The previous answer to my earlier question still didn't provide the answer I need.

Today, I connected the yellow wire to an energized source so it would stay on after shutting off the engine, adjusted the potentiometer to activate at 185 degrees & watched the temp, read with an electronic meat probe inserted adjacent to the thermostat probe (installed adjacent to the hot water inlet at the top of the radiator, as the instructions state). After turning off the engine I watched the temp fluctuate as high as 204 degrees & then slowly start descending. The fan didn't turn off until the temp was all the way down to 145 degrees.

In my opinion, that's too wide a differential for the turn-on-turn-off temps. After the fan initially comes on, it will never go off during normal operation unless the engine is turned-off or the temp gets low enough if the fan is wired hot (yellow wire).

Will replacing the relay correct the extremely wide temp differential that I'm experiencing?

              • CUSTOMER CARE

                A:

I'm glad to assist, Tereeves! If the relay is sticking, replacing it could fix the problem. You could also tap on the relay to see if it is sticking.

If the temperature gauge being used to determine the engine temperature is the dash gauge, you could try a standalone gauge to ensure that the reading is accurate.

There odd temperature fluctuations if the coolant is in need of replacement or if there are any plugged passages that are not allowing proper flow of coolant.

If you have any further questions, I suggest speaking with the manufacturer directly in order expedite your answer. Here is a link to their contact page: http://www.haydenauto.com/Hayden%20Customer%20Service-Customer%20Service/Content.aspx

            • Q:

I find that the on-off differential of this Thermostatic fan Control to be quite wide; setting the fan to come on at 205, it doesn't go off until the temp's well below 180. Even at highway speed, if the engine has a 180 degree thermostat, the fan will never go off after it initially comes on because the engine can't get cool enough to make the thermostatic control cut-off. I'd rather have the fan come on at 200 & go off at 185. Is this possible?

The fan controller came with a 25amps fuse
and blew out after a hour of use on my mercury car factory fan.
I personally don’t know how many amps the relay is.
