Install spark plug tube seals with the flat side against the cover and the rounded side facing down so they slip nicely over the spark plug tubes to seal them. If you put them in upside down you'll have to pull them out and re-position them because the valve cover won't seat properly over the tubes. Remove all traces of old sealant from the head using a flat piece of hard plastic with a firm edge. Do not use a metal scraper or you'll gouge the aluminum and oil may leak past your new gasket (if you accidentally do this try using some extra sealant over the gouge to minimize leakage). Use sealant on upper head surface around corners and semicircular camshaft protrusions as these areas are more prone to leakage.

Let me preface this review by stating that I'm a dealer trained technician. The Gaskets are slightly smaller than the OE Toyota gaskets. This was fine for the front valve cover. But the rear was a different story. Due to the tight clearance with the wiring harness, there is no way to install this without brushing the rear cam gears. This causes the gasket to pop out of the groove like an elastic, everytime. I tried 3 times, and on the last attempt I thought I got it. Then I put it all back together, started the car, and found the rear valve cover leaking... This was very frustrating, as this ment that I had to due the job again. I finally broke down and bought a replacement gasket from the local Toyota dealer. This went in the first time with no problems. I have used Fel-Pro gaskets before and they've been fine. But I'm sad to say they are now made in China and not of the same quality they once were. For this reason and the sizing issue that caused me to do the job 2 times, I can't recommend this part.
