THIS SWITCH IS NOT THE GAUGE SENSOR !!
Bad reviews are not relevant because this is not what goes to the instrument gauge! This is a "SWICTH" for the cooling fan, it only connects to the computer, which is why it gives different readings if you mix it up with the coolant temp sensor which on 4.0 is located on the overflow tank

I purchased this part to repair a '97 Pontiac Gran Prix SE V6. The cooling fans weren't coming on the high speed setting indicating a coolant temp sensor. Not a hard job, but difficult to gain access on the V6 requiring removal of the thermostat housing and upper radiator hose and loosening the exhaust manifold to get a good throw on the ratchet for the sensor removal/install. After installation we immediately had a false indication on the temp gauge. It would never drop to the 100° baseline setting even when the engine was cold. The temp gauge indicated 150° at cold start and climbed from there. At proper operating temp (195° thermostat) the gauge was indicating near red-line (260°). With a plug-in diagnostic tool, the engine temp was actually 195°, not 260°. I purchased a OEM sensor from a GM dealership and installed and it worked properly. Incidentally, it was the same price as Advance Auto. Don't waste your time and money on this part - go buy an A/C Delco OEM part from the dealership unless you like draining, filling and burping coolant systems twice.

Faulty

Installed due to breaking the original when removing lower intake. Upon starting vehicle, within 1 minute the temp gauge was at o260 degrees, but engine wasn't even hot and thermostat not even open yet.
Connected my scan tool and the coolant temp wasn't even 150 degrees yet.
Obvious faulty part, will get a replacement.
Will provide new review once installed.
