Hi Dave, I'm glad to assist you! Most of the time, this means that you have a bad instrument cluster. The instrument cluster has a circuit board attached to it, and a lot of times, the circuit goes bad on the board. In some rare cases, there is damaged wiring or bad grounds which could also cause this problem. However, I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.
Will this part cause my 1997 Ford escort sport LX automatic to drain a brand new battery or a fully charged battery will it cause it to lock the relay and can't put it in reverse or drive until I reset relay switch relay is
near drive stick handle it will make noise and light up dash for a few turns of the key put won't turn
over after a few key turns it starts to dim lights and noise get lighter then nothing no noise no lights and battery is drained and relay switch is locked again drains all fully charged over night battery and my new battery was drained won't start not even with new battery or charged battery's won't start not even with a jump just drains the battery's has new starter new alternator new axles new front brakes had new battery

Hi Juanita, I can understand your concern. A failed ECM power relay can also cause a battery drain or dead battery. If the relay shorts it can leave power on to the computer, even when the vehicle is turned off. This will place a parasitic drain on the battery, which will eventually cause it to go dead. However, without the presence of your vehicle we would not be able to properly diagnose it, nor provide you with a 100% answer. I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.
