Wish I had changed it a long time ago!!
I finally got tired of the clunking at every turn on my 2002 silverado. I got up the nerve to change it myself after watching youtube video. Changed it with no problem. 2 1/2 years later, still no clunks.
I always order online and pickup at store about an hour later. Coupon codes will save you $$$$.

Been dealing with the dreaded knock in the steering shaft since I bought this 2002 Silverado some 5 years ago. Just now got around to doing someting about it.
This Dorman unit appears to be engineered and made a little better than the OE shaft. They include a channel in the inner telescoping shaft that I assume distributes the grease better. I went an extra step and applied extra 'semi synthetic' grease on the inner shaft and worked it in. May not benefit anything, but I can't see where it'd hurt. Seperate the junction under the hood 1st, then under the dash 2nd. Installation of the new shaft should be in the reverse order. Both bolts should be tightened to about 35 ft lbs.
The entire job took about 20 minutes...including wiping down my tools (15mm wrench and 15mm socket/rachet is all I used) and putting them away. I drove across the field in front of my house, which is where I could always feel/hear the most knocking in the steering wheel. This time, it was smooth as silk.
