Comments about Dorman - Help Sliding Window Latch Kit:

My application was probably worse than most. 1993 Ford F150. Two of the old screws sheared off when trying to remove broken latch, so I had to drill 4 new holes. I couldn't get them perfectly aligned, so used only one screw on one side so it aligns better.

The new included self tapping screws are of very soft metal and strip far too easily, even for the aluminum window frame in my truck.

The design is a single hold down peice and a much larger three-flap plastic piece that must flex in one spot and fold in another. The plastic is extremely thin at the fold spot and fairly thick at the bend spot, so it is hard to bend at least at first, and I can't imagine this lasting long at all. Feels like where it folds will tear at any moment. I was afraid at first to move it at all. The thin pivot point is going to break, and render this completely useless, after ?? uses. Time will tell, but this should have been metal or some kind of sturdier design. Maybe a spring loaded clasp the snaps onto two hold downs, that would work well.

Like the cheap door handles that just will not last, ever, this may proove to be something that should never be used, and instead look elsewhere for a much more sturdy metal design. Usually not too much more expensive either.

Bottom line, this did install (took me 45 minutes), and resolve my issue, but in retrospect I should have applied the price of this to a quality latch elsewhere.

Comments about Dorman - Help Sliding Window Latch Kit:

As soon as I opened the package I was worried it would break. Once I screwed the pieces in place, I was worried the thin plastic latch would snap and it did the first time I used it. Don't buy. Complete waste of money. I'm currently looking for metal latches instead of plastic.
