Can select traction options again
Staff Reviewer -
Started having issues when selecting traction options on my 2000 Z71 GMC. NOTICED THAT AFTER SELECTING 4 wheel high (as an example) that I could not easily transition back into auto to 2 wheel drive...it would just blink at me. After several attempts and multiple button pushing I could usually get the selection back to 2 wheel drive. Needless to say this is not an issue you want to deal wth when transitioning to differnet road surfaces/weather conditions. Also noticed the maintenance message of 4whell drive would flash during normal operations. After some research I found in a forum where the original selector switch could "crack" internally causing a lose in switch commands. Found this switch on Advanced Auto and decided to give it a try. Removal and installation is simple and rally no tools are need other than a knife or thin blade to disconnect the electrical connectors. Start by removing the decorative panel around you instrument cluster...just gently pry with yr fingers until the clips are released. I started on the top of the dashboard and worked around until the cover was fully released. Then, drop your steering tilt all the way down and move your gear selector to low. This will enable you to wiggle the cover out of the way and remove for access to the selector. Once at the selector, use a mall screw drive blade/knife to free the retain clips to the selector assembly. Remove the selector and remove the two electrical connectors by gently releasing the clips that keep the connectors in place. Installation of the new part is reversed. So far e new selector operates normally and seems to have resolved my selection issues. Good luck and be safe"

easy to install and just glad one was on hand for pick-up.
When you need it most, it won't work.

These things are prone to failure...So glad they have a lifetime replacement!

This was a replacement switch for my original 4wd selector switch. Error code that I was getting went away immediately. It shifted between all ranges with no problems. We'll see how it holds up over time.
