DieHard 3/8 in. Drive 5/16 in. Hex Bit Socket: S2 Steel for Long-Lasting Performance

I received a Diehard brand 3/8 drive metric deep socket set for evaluation. This is a 6-point deep socket with 14 pieces covering all sizes from 6 mm to 12 mm. The depth of the socket is 2 inches which adequately covers most scenarios requiring a deep socket. Sockets are clearly marked with size and include a rail for easy storage. Every socket base interior has a dimple on all 4 sides to lock the base onto your ratchet. The base of each socket has a knurled ring around it for a firm grip when attaching and detaching from the ratchet. The sockets appear to be of quality construction and attached positively to nuts and bolt heads for tightening with no issues with long protruding bolts. Although the sockets are a good value for the price, there were some quality control issues. One socket had a clearly visible scratch on the side and another was missing the plastic insert at the base of the interior of the socket. While not a serious issue, it is disappointing to receive a brand new set in this condition. Functionally, the sockets performed well. I prefer 12 point sockets as they slide onto the piece with little maneuvering since there are twice as many contact points than a 6 point socket. But since deep sockets are used less frequently than regular sockets and most nuts and bolts are 6 points, this is a good addition to your toolbox at a reasonable price.

The tapered portion of the sockets should go most of the way to the socket end, these are low torque use sockets and need to get into tight locations. I had to grind down the E4 socket to get it thinner up higher to get it into place by my ignition switch due to the poor design.
