Front to Back Movement on Tensioner
I replaced the tensioner and belt at the same time. I noticed that the belt oscillates front to back on the tensioner pulley, about 1/8" movement as it rotates around. The belt was routed correctly and properly seated in all the pulleys. The new tensioner was fine also. I re-installed the old belt and it ran straight and true (I wanted to replace the old belt due to age). I then re-installed this new belt and the same movement occurred. I purchased a Gates belt elsewhere and it's perfectly straight and true. I probably got a defective belt and it might not have caused any immediate problems, but I would think it would have put added stress on the pulley and belt over many miles.
