Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner by CRC Industries safely cleans and protects your vehicle's mass air flow sensor. Not to be confused with other carburetor and throttle body cleaners, this product is specifically designed to safely clean your mass air flow sensor. Modern computer controlled fuel injected vehicles rely on the correct feedback from the mass air flow sensor to provide the optimum fuel to air mixture. As your vehicle ages the mass air flow sensor begins to collect contaminants not captured by your air cleaner filter. These contaminants will cause incorrect measurements producing a rich running mix. This can will pay for itself, with the increase in miles per gallon. Cleaning your mass air flow sensor will prolong the life of this component. It is safe to use on the sensitive electronics and plastics.

I have a 2004 Isuzu Axiom with a direct injected engine and I was having issues that seemed to point to a problematic MAF sensor. A new sensor is over $400 so I figured this cleaner would be a great way to see if there was some life left in the original sensor. But it appears that the sensor in this engine is a "Kármán vortex" type, which doesn't use heated elements to sense air flow. A call to CRC tech support confirmed that this product is NOT to be used with this sort of MAF sensor. Not only will it not work, it will likely permanently damage the sensor. This type of sensor is not uncommon -- being used on Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, Plymouth Laser, some Toyotas, Lexus, and some BMWs. So be sure that your MAF sensor is compatible with this cleaner before using it.
