Carquest Professional Alternator: New, 130 Amps, Limited Lifetime Warranty

I am really impressed with the value and quality of this new 130 amp alternator. It is superior to the defective OEM 95 amp alternator that it I replaced on my 1997 F250 light duty pick up with the 4.6 V-8. Advanced Auto ran a diagnostic test on my old 95 amp alternator and confirmed my suspicion that the diode was defective and the cause of my dead battery problem. I greatly appreciated this service. Removal of the old alternator required that I move the spark plug wires out of the way and tie them to a secure object to create enough space to remove the old alternator. Once the retaining bolts were removed, I had to manipulate the old alternator somewhat and rotate it upside down to remove it from the engine. Installation of the new alternator required the same type of manipulation to get it ready to bolt up to the engine. There is an "L" shaped bracket that attaches to the top of the alternator and to the intake manifold. The new 130 amp alternator has a larger case and the bolt hole at the 90 degree bend on the "L" shaped bracket did not line up with the corresponding hole on the intake manifold when the end of the "L" shaped bracket was attached to the alternator. I removed the bracket and elongated the hole at the 90 degree bend of the "L" shaped bracket with a Dremel grinder. When I re-installed the "L" shaped bracket, all of the holes lined up perfectly. It took me about one hour to remove the old alternator, install the new alternator and modify the "L" shaped bracket. I would characterize the level of skill required to do my installation as "moderate." However, it could be considered "difficult" if a person does not have the know how or the tools to solve the problem that I encountered. Then again, there may be some installations where the "L" shaped bracket does not need to be modified, thereby making this a relatively "easy" installation as described in the other reviews. My truck has started perfectly each time with no dead battery since installing the new 130 amp alternator one month ago. Thanks!

I ordered a new alternator because I didn't want to take a chance on a rebuilt one. But.....after removing old alternator & installing the new one (which was a lot of work), when I started the truck, I heard a very distinct shrill sound. (NOTE: this part was manufactured in Malaysia) I drove to Advance store & let the Manager there know that it did not sound right. Sounded like a bad bearing. He agreed. He ordered a replacement for me. I had to do the same job all over again. This was what I was trying to avoid by purchasing a new part rather than a rebuilt one. Very disappointed in this purchase but thankful for the manager at the store. So far, the last one I put in is still OK, but it's only been less than a week. I don't appreciate having to do the same job twice because of an inferior part manufactured off shore.
