The starting system consists of the rotating electrical motor and solenoid which may be mounted on the starter motor or mounted remotely. The electric motor drives a gear which engages with the engine's flywheel located at the rear of the motor, when the motor is energized, the motor will turn the engines crankshaft. The starter solenoid is an electric relay, or switch used to provide power to the starter motor or any electrical device that requires high amperage to operate. A low amperage wire winding within the solenoid will create magnetic force when voltage is applies from a remote switch, such as the ignition switch or another type of remote mounted switch. The contacts within the relay carry a high amperage load to run an electric motor or some other type of high load circuit.
