Carquest Premium CV Axle Shaft Assembly

Needed to replace a torn CV boot on GM fullsize FWD. This axle was only a little more money than the boot kit which would have required me to dismantle the old axle. Only installation issue was that I needed a dead blow hammer to properly seat inner shaft circlip into transaxle.

this product will fit a bonneville WITH OUT a supercharger not with. the inside spline is too long for the c-clip to lock into the transmission and it does pop out leaving you either pushing the car, destroying your differential, calling a tow truck, or possibly the last or first two

All aftermarket axles have garbage rings but you CAN solve that.. Here's a tip to make "seating" the CV axle easier. Yes, I tried doing so first without the trick a couple times with even soft hammer blows...but after the trick, a simple hard shove-in, seated it. Trick 1: Find a socket the exact diameter of the shaft side with the ring on it. (The shaft diameter, not the ring itself.) Now take the ring off the shaft and slip it on the socket. Lay the socket on its ring side on a hard surface like a vice flat. Hammer it slightly around the circumference of the socket....the idea is to form it to a new CIRCULAR diameter slightly larger than it's old diameter. You're tapping it with the hammer to "shock form" the ring to a circular diameter. Don't worry...it'll still fit ok. Now slide it off the socket and back on the shaft in its old place. (2) Put a mark with a sharpie or grease pencil someplace on the shaft away from the transmission side. Now put some grease on the ring in its shaft grove and align the opening in the grooved ring with the marking you just made. (The idea is to hold the ring in the same place with that grease--long enough to slam it home. .) (3) Now orient the shaft so your mark is UP and slam it in. It'll seat better when the ring opening is UP. I can't take credit...I simply combined to very good mechanic ideas.
