Catastrophic filter failure - transmission needs repair
Submitted 5 years ago
This filter physically failed along the joint of upper and lower shell after less than 3000 miles. Both OEM and aftermarket filters are similar in construction, lower portion is stamped metal and upper is thermoplastic. This failure caused transmission to draw air, lowering fluid pressure and causing drivability issues. OBDII code P0868. Replacement filter appeared to fix but transmission suddenly started slipping again after 700 miles. Truck now at dealership, where they indicate it needs rebuild. I believe the second filter failed as well.
Bottom line, using this poor quality filter for routine maintenance damaged my transmission and will probably cost me thousands in repair costs. Bad part = serious issue = serious repair = serious money. Must be why this only comes with a 90 day warranty. Seriously.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend
