The deceleration sensor is part of an occupant safety feature providing a signal to the vehicle stability control (VSC) module concerning the direction that the vehicle is moving. The VSC module expects the vehicle to be moving in a normal forward motion but when the vehicle suddenly goes into a sideways direction the sensor signal will change abruptly identifying an out-of-control condition. The VSC module operates within the electronic brake control module (EBCM) as part of the anti-lock brake system (ABS). The EBCM will pulse the brake fluid pressure allowed to each wheel or axle until the vehicle is brought under control.
