NOTE Regarding NOT FOR 3800 Below!
Staff Reviewer - Submitted 12 years ago
I was apprehensive to buy after reading the "NOT FOR 3800" review below. I drive a 2000 Camaro with the 3800 V6 engine. This part was a perfect fit and works great. Maybe the reviewer below has something different about their particular car... different fuel rail, customization, I don't know... but in my case, the part was exact. It was easy to install and came with all new hardware.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend
Exact fit says it all.

Easy replacement on 4.6 Northstar V-8. Least expensive regulator available. Half-inch box wrench only tool required (to remove engine valley cover). 15 minute job, and that's being extra careful working on a warm engine. Extra mounting parts are included but not needed in this installation. Restored new engine "start on first crank" capability on 100K mile engine; much, much easier and faster starts will no doubt prolong life of starter. Good idea to replace fuel filter also, as mentioned in one of the other reviews, for best long term results.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Does the check engine light give a code for a bad fuel pressure regulator, or does that need to be tested separately, and if so, can they do that at Advance Auto Parts?
Product Owner - roygarcia160
It might have a CEL illuminated for low fuel pressure but advanced auto can
check the vehicles codes and give more information on repairing . They can
not check fuel psi regulator at store .

On my 1999 Bonneville I had several related issues. But it did not give a code that says Fuel Pressure Regulator when mine went bad. I was having problems with idle, fuel too rich/lean, evap emission. I also replaced the Mass Air Floor sensor(MAF). Car runs great, still have it.
will the fuel pressure regulator cause the cylinders to flood with gas? or prevent fuel from getting to injectors; even though fuel is present at the rails?
Verified Reply - Steve
Hi Frank, If your fuel pressure regulator is going bad, your car could display several different symptoms. Get your bad fuel pressure regulator checked if you notice any of the following. Spark Plugs Blackened, Engine Doesn't Run Smoothly, Tail Pipe Emits Black Smoke, Dipstick Smells of Gasoline, Gasoline Drips Out of the Tailpipe, Engine Stalls, Gasoline in the Vacuum Hose. However, I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.
Where do I locate the fuel pressure regulator on a 1999 Olds Aurora?
Open Reply - Vincent
The fuel pressure regulator on your 1999 Oldsmobile Aurora is located on the fuel rail and has a vacuum line to the intake.
I have a 1997 gmc astro van when removing the upper intake i could see the poppet injectors and this fuel pressure regulator there was no vacuume line attached to it,where do i attach a vacuume line inside the lower intake manifold

Without the presence of the vehicle we could neither guide you nor provide you with a 100% answer. I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis and guidance on attaching your vacuum line to the lower intake manifold.
what is the purpose of the fuel pressure regulator and what are the symptoms of a bad one
Open Reply - Mike the Auto Parts Master
Most modern fuel injected cars run a fuel pump in the tank and run much more fuel than is needed to the fuel rail. A regulator keeps a certain amount of fuel pressure in the rail and then sends the rest back to the tank. Symptoms include: The vehicle engine runs rough and often stumbles and sputters.
The vehicle engine will not start after ignition. Usually, this is problem is encountered in the morning when you start your vehicle. Many a times, the engine starts, but stalls shortly after starting.
The fuel pump in the vehicle becomes noisy at times.
A bad fuel pressure regulator can also result in fouled spark plugs.
Last but not the least, the fuel mileage of the engine decreases noticeably.
