Comments about Beck/Arnley New Water Pump:

Not sure why a manufacture would use plastic parts on moving objects, but if one has the choice they should pay the extra and go with the metal.

  • Q:

I've read on the product description that the "impeller" is metal and I read another customers question about whether the impeller is metal and "Customer Care" answered that Yes it indeed was metal.

Perhaps I'm ignorant and just don't understand the terminology being used but, this is still unclear for me. The photograph shown for the part (though it tries to hide it) still reveals that the fan/propeller/impeller, whatever term you'd like to use, is in fact still plastic, at least it sure does look plastic. All the water pumps I could find that are similar also boast a "metal impeller" yet every photograph shows a plastic one and all the ones I have previously purchased had plastic ones.

So for clarification, is the material used for the propeller/impeller/fan/turny-do-dad that ends up submerged within the, sometimes extremely HOT, coolant made of metal that will not break down at these high temps? and if not, why are they not metal?

I'd be happy to help you with that! The impeller is indeed metal and not plastic for this particular pump. The impeller is the part that pushes the coolant through the system.

Yes the water pump is timing belt driven and yes you will need to replace timing belt at same time.

    • A:

yes, its run directly off the timing belt, it is also strongly recommended that the timing belt be replaced at the same time.

    • A:

Absolutely not. The water pump is driven by the serpentine belt, NOT the timing belt. The timing belt dictates when the car's valves open and close only and nothing more. The only reason why you would change the timing belt along with the water pump is because it would be convenient.

Yes this Water Pump is driven by the Timing belt. I am not sure where the previous person got their answer, but I can confirm it is on the Timing belt, and why would you put an Old Timing Belt back on, once you had removed it.
