I bought this coil back in the summer but didnt check the warranty. I installed it on my f150 that i put a 460 in. This project is not a daily driver but is street legal. The truck ran awesome until two nights ago. The coil died. I called the advance near me and was told it had a lifetime warranty but he could not check my name since i did not by from his store. I called the store i bought it from and the girl there told me advance had stopped selling this coil and there was no warranty. I went to another parts place and bought a stock coil and the beast came alive when i hooked it up. Maybe it was just my coil but the quality stinks if it only last a few months being cranked every other week for just a few minutes. Maybe if i drove it daily it would have died under my non-warranty??

Comments about Accel Super Stock Coil:

I was having problems with my boat and finally realized the coils were for point system not electronic ignition system. I was losing voltage and isolated the coils that were on board. Replaced with the Super Coil and both engines run like new. They can be used with both points or HEI. 42,000 Volts gives me faster starts and much better fuel economy.

It's a good replacement coil, fits in the stock bracket on a GM points car. The terminals are soft so be careful when tightening the nuts.

                A:

Hi Dean, glad to assist you! The Accel SuperStock Coils are designed with optimized low resistance and a high turn's ratio for high energy output. These coils are re-engineered for higher energy output resulting in quicker starting, improved throttle response and more high RPM power. These coils are designed to work with both points style and breakerless electronic ignition systems. These are excellent high performance coils for import and domestic vehicles with canister type oil filled can coil. To check the exact fit application for the part number 8140, please provide us with the year, make, model and engine size of your vehicle.

I have a stock 383 Plymouth Sport Fury. I need to replace the coil. Will this work for my application? I've read some reviews and I see something about a ballast or a resistor?? Wouldn't my car be set up for this if it is a replacement coil?

                It depends:

If you are running Points, then YES. It will work as is, but you will find that your points need to be replaced way to frequently. When used with this coil a ballast resistor will extend the life of the points significantly.

If you are running Electronic Ignition then it depends on the brand / model. For example: distributors made by 123Ignition require over 1 Ohm of resistance, so this coil with 1.4 Ohms would be fine (and NOT need a ballast resistor).

If you are running a different brand (Mallory, Accel, Pertronix, etc.) then you need to check the requirements.

Why is this called a points coil. My 351 was updated to a unilite model distributor that has no points. Will this operate as would a coil that put out over 40,000 volts like the big square yellow on by accel on my car. I wish to open the plug gap to .48 to allow for a better burn. Thanks, Bob

I do not believe this will. This is a universal performance coil for points equipped vehicle with a canister-type oil-filled can coil like stated in the description. I do not believe this will work since you have a distributor with no points.
