The airbag clockspring is one piece of the passenger restraint system. The restraint airbag located in the driver’s steering wheel is hardwired, meaning the airbag has a directly wired connection to the vehicle passenger restraint module. The clockspring is located within the steering column just below the airbag assembly and contains a spirally wound flat ribbon conductor within it. As the steering wheel is rotated during normal driving conditions the electrical connection between the air bag and the restrain module remains complete.
