have installed for a few months and no issues thus far... Was easy to install, yet you will need a deep socket to remove one of bolts

I installed this alternator in my 98 Malibu. It went on easy and the price was good, but that was it. Apparently, on some vehicles the PCM puts out a 5 volt signal to the alternator to turn on. This particular alternator does not recognize this signal. It waits for a higher signal. The alternator will pass all the bench tests because the bench test sends a higher signal. I was not aware of the issue until I installed my second alternator that did not work. Thought I had a bigger problem so I took it to a garage and all they did was replace the Advance remanufactured alternator with a new one and the problem was gone. Be careful buying a remanufactured. Spend the extra money up front and buy a new one or you can buy the remanufactured and then end up taking it to a mechanic like I did and spend double.

although the alternator was very inexpensive, works well, and easy to install, the pulley that came with it was a piece of junk. if i would have used it, it would have destroyed the serpentine belt. i had the guys at advance auto put my old pulley on the new alternator. you should definately fix this problem. other than that, all was good.

This item was purchased after an Advance Auto associate tested both the alternator and battery in my car. I was told the battery was bad and the alternator was good. Not true. I purchased a new battery and no change--battery light still came on. So back to the store to get this alternator because I needed one in a hurry. Installed it and it DID work--FOR EXACTLY 24 MILES!! At that point the battery light came on again and I was stuck in the rain due to the fact the battery ran down quickly trying to power the wipers, lights etc. that were needed in the storm in addition to powering the ignition and fuel pump. I tested the wires, connections and the serpentine belt & tensioner and all were fine. I then purchased an OEM NEW alternator from a popular automotive online parts site. I did have to wait a few days for delivery but it was time well spent, the car now is fixed and the new OEM alternator is working fine. I will NEVER purchase another item like this from Advance if this is what I have to expect. The extra cost of OEM new parts is worth it, believe me.
