I have always worked on my vehicles. So when the 1997 FORD F350 would not start I was faced with whether to buy a new starter for $120.00 or replace the solenoid for $40.00. It was the ORIGINAL STARTER and the truck is not GARAGED. I pulled starter, and to my surprize , the solenoid came off easily. bought new solenoid installed on starter and then put back onto the motor. Truck started first time. Install was quick and easy. Got away with a CHEAP FIX. When I started I was worried about the small bolts on the solenoid being RUSTED and /or BREAKING, BUT THIS WAS NOT THE CASE.

IItried 4 of these in a row. All 4 were bad. One had the plastic end broken when i bought it. 3 were shorted insude the casing. This has been the worst experience ever buying an auto part. Advanced auto is great but BWD solenoids are a disaster. I just installed a complete new starter/solenoid on my F150 that I bought elsewhere. It finally starts. BWD will not fool me again!

I purchased one at local Advance Auto PArts store. Took it home and tested on a 12 volt DC supply. Did not work. Checked coil. Open. Returned for another. Same. Did not work. Checked coil. Again open. I suspect manufacturing defects. Bottom line. Do not purchase. If purchase despite my foregoing comment, test before you install to confirm works.

Bracket became magnetized on the first use , then the plunger would jump up 1/16 of an inch and stick to the metal bracket , instead of pulling down 1/4 inch and actuating the starter...Had to re-engineer the unit to make it function..
