solved a problem on my sons car that was misdiagnosed by someone else as a bad head gasket. On this car the overflow tank feeds the thermostat housing and bypasses the thermostat so when the old stat stuck shut it pressurized the overflow tank and didn't allow water into the upper radiator hose. Another so called mechanic diagnosed it as a bad head gasket.

This thermostat did not fit my 1992 Ford Ranger with a 2.3 l engine, because the Rubber seal comes around the edges of the thermostat whereas the original has a Rubber seal whose edges come flush with the edges of the circular portion of the thermostat. Consequently, you could not get the thermostat into the thermostat housing with the gasket on and with the gasket off it's too loose, or does not have the right height to tighten. This was even though online it said it was an exact fit for my particular truck. Unfortunately, another wasted trip to the store. The second one in one repair based on parts that supposedly were an exact fit.
