After putting almost 10000 miles on this engine, I am beginning to realize I made a huge mistake by purchasing it. I discovered the rear main seal on the engine was leaking badly, and contacted Spartan for warranty repair. I had a good experience with their warranty department, but they only covered about half of the total repair cost. Although the oil leak is fixed, the engine is running very rough at idle. I have replaced several parts that could cause a rough idle, but nothing seemed to help. Then, recently, I noticed that coolant is now leaking from the head gasket and running down the engine block. I think I would have had better luck with a salvage yard engine. I would not recommend purchasing one of these engines if you don't have extensive knowledge about them.

I bought this engine to replace the blown 4.0 SOHC in my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. It is a good motor and runs great, but I had issues with installing all of the parts due to it coming with the wrong gasket set for my engine code. I have engine code 0G, but the engine came with a 1G gasket set. (intake, throttle body, and valve cover gaskets are different.) Despite having to purchase the correct gaskets for my engine code, I am very happy with this engine. It always starts right up and runs strong. I have put 118 miles on it so far, and all is well.

This engine gets the job done. Good quality gaskets are included. Be ready for a trip to the dealer though, as all exhaust studs/nuts/bolts to install the exhaust manifolds are not included. Mine runs smooth as glass and the troublesome timing chains are as quiet as can be.
