Make sure you heed caution...just because you have a manual transmission classic Mustang...you'll need the automatic version of the starter. The automatic version has the long nose on it and allows the starter to engage the ring gear. The shorter nose *may* work, but it's only engaging part of the teeth on that ring gear.

This product was advertised as an exact replacement which is exactly as advertised very easy to install due to not having to make any modifications to the product. Also ease of installation has to be due to engineering of the vehicle in the manufacturing process in that there were no issues with having to remove other components to gain access. The part was ordered via the web site which has turned out to be my go to place when I need parts. Generally there are discounts available that are not available in the store I can order a part on line and go to the store where it is sitting on the counter waiting for me when I arrive. I am sorry that there isn't a 0 star rating! Purchased an "exact fit NEW" starter. It was installed it correctly. Started my truck and heard a loud whine. Removed it and upon inspection, there was black grease that had blown through around the drive gear and shaft. Returned it, they tested it and of course it failed. They brought out another new one, (they didn't have any remaned ones) tested that one and That one failed as well! These were Premium New Starters! I hope they sent ALL of them back! Stay away from CARQUEST parts!! I bought a remaned starter from a competitor and worked just fine.

I've owned my 1967 mustang for almost twenty years now and it has always struggled starting, I thought it was a fuel delivery issue or timing. It would turn over and start but it could be a long drawn out process. Replaced it and now it fires up instantly. Replacement was simple, two bolts and an electrical connection, took minutes.

DescriptionOur advanced power system line has grown to include starters. Our new APS starter is designed to crank over the highest compression engines on a hot day in Death Valley. Not that too many race cars are sitting in Death Valley, but it's good to know that you have the oomph to make it happen. The APS starter features all new components beginning with a three horsepower motor. This power is used to crank over the reduced 4.4:1 gear set to deliver great torque to the engine's ring gear to get the engine turning. The armature is balanced during assembly and is guided by two ball bearings for smooth engagement and thousands of starts. The downsized housing clears most headers and oil pans, but just in case, we made the billet mount so it can be clocked in different positions to help in tight applications. The assembly is powder coated MSD red and will stay looking good, even though it's underneath your car.
