My 2001 Cougar was throwing the dreaded P0171 and P0174 bank 1 and 2 lean codes and some random mis-fires on cylinder 1 and 2. Tried the basics, cleaning MAF, swapping AIC and EGR feedback sensor. Even swapped single platinum plugs for the recommended duals and nothing seemed to correct the issue of mis-fire at idle and poor MPG. Took about an hour to swap out the gaskets and clean off surfaces and car runs like new again, MPG back up to near 30. I couldn't hear any leaks and only spraying some water around ports told me the gaskets were bad. Of the 48 sealing surfaces on old gaskets only 7 were sealing properly, you can tell by looking at the color of the seals around each port, some actually had dirt building up inside them on the ports used for the ram effect on WOT. I pulled upper and did not pull harness off lower and wired up the lower 3" off head mating surface and worked underneath to clean, used alcohol on rag and scotch brite pad, then again with rag until surfaces were shiny. The injector harness is tough to get off and the clips will just break, this actually saved some time, hanging the lower intake with some bailing wire. So if you car has a mis-fire, tossing some lean codes and sensors do not fix your problem, toss in a pair of these and you will be surprised... Some stores will try and sell you O2 sensors, I could find no way to swap those without pulling radiator for front, and tipping engine forward for rears, I sure hope they last a long time.

Love felpro gaskets did my upper and lower intake manifold gaskets because I did my front and back valve cover gaskets so the job was already half way done so just did them at the same time to save money great buy work great the lower intake gaskets is a big job don't recommend doing it unless you are professional like me and know what ur doing

This set was purchased to replace a set I installed in July, 2016 - 18 months ago. The front and rear end pieces of the original set, which are made of molded silicone, completely deteriorated, allowing a substantial oil leak to occur. The two original side pieces, which seal the manifold to the heads, performed perfectly. The manifold was torqued to specifications found in the Haynes manual for my vehicle, 2002 Ford Ranger 3.0 L. When installing the new manifold set, I again used the side pieces in the set. but ran a bead of blue RTV where the front and rear seals would have fit. A number of YouTube videos say to do this - I didn't watch any videos prior to the original installation. It's been two weeks since the new set was installed; so far everything is leak free.
