The injection control pressure (ICP) sensor monitors and relays the oil pressure inside the high pressure oil rails to on-board computers, helping to ensure smooth and proper fuel injector actuation and operation. Properly pressurized oil delivery is critical to the hydraulically activated electronically assisted unit injector (HEUI) fuel injection system, and when this system fails to operate properly the on-board computers may throw a code and illuminate a check engine light. The temperature of various systems must be reported to the engine control module (ECM) as well as other operating system controllers in the vehicle. Coolant temperature, cabin temperature, exhaust temperature and ambient temperature are just a few systems reported by a temperature sensor. The temperature sensor is fed 5 volts by the systems computer, within the sensor housing will be a thermistor, or dropping resistor whose resistance value will change as the temperature surrounding it changes. Changing resistance in the circuit will change the volt signal at the processor indicating the current operating value.

An essential component in the diesel electronic control system, this sensor provides the vehicle powertrain control module (PCM) with Intake Air Temperature (IAT). The injector sleeve provides sealing and cooling between the diesel fuel injector and cylinder head. Improper sealing can result in combustion gas and coolant leaks into the fuel system, which can result in engine misfire and injector failure.
