Most flex plates are made of a thick piece of sheet metal with bolt holes for the torque converter and teeth for the starter. The job of a flex plate is to allow for expansion of the torque converter as engine RPM increases. Hays billet steel flywheels are manufactured from certified billet material that will not break up under the stress of high RPM and severe punishment of racing. Available in weights up to 50 pounds for specialized applications, most Hays flywheels are drilled with both the Borg and Beck and long-style clutch patterns. Hays flywheels are certified under SFI spec 1.1.

ARP offers two styles of flywheel/flex plate bolts: High Performance and Pro Series. They are both forged from aerospace alloy and heat treated prior to thread rolling and machining. Both feature an exclusive, flat, 12 point head design and larger than stock shank diameter for increased strength and improved flywheel register. The popular High Performance series is rated at 180,000 PSI, and the premium grade Pro Series, originally developed for NASCAR competition, has a 200,000 PSI rating.
