Materials vary from ferritic martensitic steels (intake valves) and austentic CrMn based steels to extreme heat and corrosion resistant Nickel base super alloy for exhaust valves. New hydraulic lifters are recommended by VAG to be replaced at the same time as new valves are also replaced. It is further recommended that the lifters are allowed to Settle for a minimum of 30 mins to allow excess oil to drain.
