Materials vary from ferritic martensitic steels (intake valves) and austentic CrMn based steels to extreme heat and corrosion resistant Nickel base super alloy for exhaust valves. Goetze modern oil control rings scrape off oil from the cylinder wall, leaving just the required amount for lubrication. The running surface is the contour of the ring facing the cylinder surface.
