The ring gear has teeth which engage with the starter motor allowing the engine to crank over and start. Repeated engagement with the starter results in worn or broken ring gear teeth. Once this is diagnosed, the ring gear must be replaced. Pioneer ring gears are designed to fit and function just like the original part to ensure durability and long life.

All Hays flywheels are certified S.F.I. spec 1.1. This flywheel fits the big block internal balanced 352, 390, 427, 428, 429, 460 CID Ford for 1965 through 1972. This is a 184 tooth flywheel that weighs 40 lbs. Requires an 11 in Borg-Beck, Long or Mark XII clutches. This flywheel is thicker than stock and may require a bellhousing spacing or a Lakewood bellhousing to eliminate interference. Flywheel bolts included. Other applications available.

Hays heavy-duty flexplates for Ford 385-Series high performance and competition engines are constructed of a thicker than stock steel plate, enabling them to withstand the stress of high-stall torque converters and high-RPM engines. While factory stock plates tend to crack around the crankshaft hub when punished under high torque and RPM conditions, the thicker Hays flexplate handles the force. These flexplates are supplied with a ring gear that is securely welded in place. All Hays heavy-duty flexplates are zinc-dichromate plated to resist corrosion and are SFI certified under specification 29.1.
