I have used this tool many times to replace ball joints. It is large, but most of the vehicles that I work on are large. I have not had any problems and have always got the job done with this tool. It is better to have an extra set of hands when holding the tool and new ball joint. The directions are on the cover and good enough to get an understanding of how the tool works.

Comments about Powerbuilt Tools Ball Joint/U Joint Service Set (23 Piece):

This is a great tool set for less common sizes. I have an Infiniti G35 coupe with ball joints that were.... really really bad. I had tried for ages with sets from other places and could never get it right. Turns out, most places ball joint sets will have a 1 1/4" collar, but the Infiniti's ball joints are larger. This kit offers a 1 7/16" collar which *is* large enough to get the ball joints out. The job which I had previously spent hours and hours getting insanely frustrated by, now took a mere 30 minutes to complete. AAP/Carquest are the only people who stock this larger toolset as a loaner. Staff was super friendly and helpful. This was actually my very first AAP/Carquest experience and they have definitely won over a customer with their great service and helpful assistance.

I tried everything to get a lower ball joint off my lower control arm, had it in a vice at home and even put fire on it and pounded with a 15lb hammer and would not budge! Picked up this free kit at Advance Auto Parts and got home used as directed and bingo, ball joint finally popped out!! Thanks guys!!!

Used to change u-joint on 97 tacoma. First time I've done something like this. Directions were good. Used a 18v impact wrench to remove and 1/2 in manual rachet to install. Remember to use grease (not oil, WD-40, etc) on screw.

Happy to help Andy! For your 03 S-10 with the research we did some versions of the S-10 came with and without an EGR solenoid. It would be mounted to the front of the engine between the AC compressor and the alternator. It is attached by just 2 bolts that need to be removed then the EGR comes out so you can replace that gasket.
