It's late saturday in my beat around 81 toyota when the spark plug decides to eject itself from its aluminum threaded head. At first I panicked, I didn't have time or the money to fool with such a problem. However, I was right across from Advance auto, so I thought I might as well pull in and see what they could do for me. To my surprise there was this product for [$] that fit perfectly to my exact problem. I went online to Alcoa's website to ensure proper use of the tapping tool and counter sink, and then went to work. Within a half hour I had rethreaded, cleaned, and reseated my spark plug! My weekend and my wallet were saved! Thanks Advance!

Comments about Fix-A-Thred M14-1.25 Plug-Saver Kit - 1 each insert S, N, L:

You can't use this tool because it requires a 19 mm socket and the 19 mm socket can't fit inside the spark plug hole.

Comments about Fix-A-Thred M14-1.25 Plug-Saver Kit - 1 each insert S, N, L:

My SparkPlug blew out of my Honda Ridgeline. I was able to drive 200 miles with only 5 plugs... any way here are some tips,
1. If the sparkplug bore hole is to small you may need to grind the taphead to fit your sparkplug socket, I did for my Honda.
2. Place the correct size thread insert on the sparkplug, it should fit the entire thread shaft without hanging over, count the number of turns it takes to completely turn all the way onto the sparkplug. It took 9 1/4 turns for my Ridgeline plug.
Using a standard socket wrench and the needed extensions for your vehicle.
3. Now when you tap your threads, place some grease on the tap, be sure to press firmly and turn the tap slowly and count the number of complete turns you make, make sure to surpass the number of turns by 1/4-1 complete turn that you counted previous w/the insert and plug, I used 10 turns for my Ridgeline. Back the tap out.
4. Clean the grease and shavings from the tap and clean the sparkplug bore hole with starter fluid. Start your vehicle to blow out any excess shavings and to air clean the new threads.
5. Place the insert on the tap, use high temp threadlock on the outside threads of the insert. Turn the insert onto the newly tapped threads using the same count as you counted for tap. My Ridgeline was 10 turns. Back out the tap. For best results allow 24hrs for the threadlock to cure... replace your spark plug and your good to go!
NOTE! If you plug blew out like mine go through all your plugs and re tighten them back down so that it won't happen to the others!

        Great Product--Easy Fix with Modification

        Comments about Fix-A-Thred M14-1.25 Plug-Saver Kit - 1 each insert S, N, L:

Used it to fix my blown spark plug on my 2001 Ford Escape. This is a great tool to use because I did not have to remove my cylinder head. The only problem was that the head of the thread chaser fits a 3/4 socket and that is too big to fit in the spark plug tube. Only an 11/16 socket fits and so I had to grind down the head to fit the 11/16 socket. Afterwards I greased the threader to catch the shavings and blew out the rest. I used Red sealant to affix the heli coil and used the spark plug to turn it in. The tap tool was too short so I used an extension to hammer it in. The truck works fine now with no problems.

After reading several reviews I decided to give this a shot on my 1988 Mazda 626. I figured I had nothing to loose since I wasn't going to pay for a head job. I inserted the tool into the spark plug hole and it looked like I had enough clearance around the hole for it to work. As I worked the tool in and out of the plug hole, I realized that the 19mm socket wasn't going to be able to drive the tool all the way through the 3/4" deep plug hole.
So, I took a belt sander to the head of the tool and spent an hour shaving down the head of the tool to 16mm. After that i was able to complete the tap. I installed the thread insert with a gasket sealer and let it set for 24 hours. I have since put serveral thousand miles on with no problems.

product is an inexpensive fix for what could be a major problem, first the hex head was to large to fit in my ford 4.6 spark plug tube. I had to modify the hex top by grinding down to fit a 5/8 socket which fit nicley. applied heavy grease and it appears that all shavings came out. installation was easy enough although it states that for easy insertion use the spark plug to install this was virtually impossible. every time I would install the coil and tried to back out the plug to finish install the coil would come out also. I used the tap and installed and it came out ok. i used permatex hi temp ultra black to seal the coil. will be 94% cured in 24 hours 100% in seven days. I will try vehicle in 24 hours to see if repair holds. holding my breath that this works.

Sorry, I would not be able to tell you. If you changed the thread pitch with the incorrect heli-coil it would be best to try and remove the heli-coil and install the correct one. Heli-coils are not designed to be re-threaded. You will need whichever thread pitch you decide to go with to match the cylinder head and the spark plug pitch.
