Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner by CRC Industries safely cleans and protects your vehicle's mass air flow sensor.
Not to be confused with other carburetor and throttle body cleaners, this product is specifically designed to safely clean your mass air flow sensor.
Modern computer controlled fuel injected vehicles rely on the correct feedback from the mass air flow sensor to provide the optimum fuel to air mixture. As your vehicle ages the mass air flow sensor begins to collect contaminants not captured by your air cleaner filter. These contaminants will cause incorrect measurements producing a rich running mix.
This can will pay for itself, with the increase in miles per gallon. Cleaning your mass air flow sensor will prolong the life of this component.
It is safe to use on the sensitive electronics and plastics.

I have a 2004 Isuzu Axiom with a direct injected engine and I was having issues that seemed to point to a problematic MAF sensor. A new sensor is over $400 so I figured this cleaner would be a great way to see if there was some life left in the original sensor. But it appears that the sensor in this engine is a "Kármán vortex" type, which doesn't use heated elements to sense air flow.

A call to CRC tech support confirmed that this product is NOT to be used with this sort of MAF sensor. Not only will it not work, it will likely permanently damage the sensor.

This type of sensor is not uncommon -- being used on Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, Plymouth Laser, some Toyotas, Lexus, and some BMWs.

So be sure that your MAF sensor is compatible with this cleaner before using it.

Comments about CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner:

My Volvo XC90 with 145K miles was triggering fault codes regarding the air flow/fuel mixture and the idle was noticeably uneven. After removing the MAF sensor and cleaning it with this product, replacing, and adding a new air filter the idle is now noticeably much smoother. I don't anticipate seeing those codes any longer. A great inexpensive maintenance job that you can do yourself.

Purchased this just to clean a few extra parts while we were trying to figure out if our air flow was one of the problems with the car. It cleans well, and evaporates quickly so it doesn't slow you down waiting on parts to dry.

My check engine light came on while driving. Scanned the code once I got home and it was 'mass air flow sensor performance.' Figured I would try cleaning it first before replacing the sensor. Worked like a charm. I would recommmend letting the sensor dry overnight if you can before reinstalling. I actually didn't drive the car for 2 days after cleaning but when I did the check engine light did not come back on and the car seems to be idling smoother. With how much cheaper the spray is than replacing the sensor I would definitely recommend trying to clean it first before replacing. I also replaced my air filter at the same time.

My Suburban was throwing intermittent check engine lights and code for MAF limited range. It was also running poorly under hard acceleration. I was going to change the MAF but then I saw this stuff and good reviews, so I tried it. No visible problems with the MAF, but sprayed it per instructions anyway. It completely cured the problem and the engine runs much smoother at idle! I'm amazed! This will be part of my routine maintenance from now own.

It is designed with advanced Cozol technology to clean mass air flow sensors and will increase horsepower and improve the air / fuel ratio and MPG. There won't be any damage on using this on the throttle body. However the usage will not be effective as much as a throttle body cleaner.

Hi, Can I use this product on a 1999 Chevrolet Prizm? I understand that a throttle body cleaner might be too harsh to be used on sensitive sensors like MAF sensor, but since this product is already designed for sensitive electronics, can this be used to clean the throttle body? Thanks.

Hi Greenarrow, good question! This CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner is meant only for cleaning MAF sensors. However, there wont be any damage by using this on the throttle body. But the usage will not be much as effective as a throttle body cleaner.

Hi KEVIN, glad to assist you! With straw attached to the can, apply 10-15 sprays of CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner onto hot-wires or hot plate and do not contact hot-wires with straw or any other object.

Hi Shad tree, good question! This Mass Air Flow Sensor cleaner is specifically designed for cleaning sensitive components of mass airflow sensors and cannot be used to clean IAC valve. We have an alternate CRC Throttle Body and Air Intake Cleaner - part# 05078 which should work fine for your application.
