Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner by CRC Industries safely cleans and protects your vehicle's mass air flow sensor.
Not to be confused with other carburetor and throttle body cleaners, this product is specifically designed to safely clean your mass air flow sensor.
Modern computer controlled fuel injected vehicles rely on the correct feedback from the mass air flow sensor to provide the optimum fuel to air mixture. As your vehicle ages the mass air flow sensor begins to collect contaminants not captured by your air cleaner filter. These contaminants will cause incorrect measurements producing a rich running mix.
This can will pay for itself, with the increase in miles per gallon. Cleaning your mass air flow sensor will prolong the life of this component.
It is safe to use on the sensitive electronics and plastics.

I have a 2004 Isuzu Axiom with a direct injected engine and I was having issues that seemed to point to a problematic MAF sensor. A new sensor is over $400 so I figured this cleaner would be a great way to see if there was some life left in the original sensor. But it appears that the sensor in this engine is a "Kármán vortex" type, which doesn't use heated elements to sense air flow.

A call to CRC tech support confirmed that this product is NOT to be used with this sort of MAF sensor. Not only will it not work, it will likely permanently damage the sensor.

This type of sensor is not uncommon -- being used on Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, Plymouth Laser, some Toyotas, Lexus, and some BMWs.

So be sure that your MAF sensor is compatible with this cleaner before using it.

2005 Ford Taurus 85K miles, new plugs still ran bad.
Cleaned Mass sensor and Throttle Body according to directions. Used tooth brush on throttle body reset computer. Could not believe the difference, took about 25 min I'm not a mechanic. Drove car about 20 miles in traffic after to reset computer. Runs perfect. Ford wanted $200-$300 for same work, made me a believer

My 2001 Mustang has been having the hesitation issue. I replaced the fuel filter, and that helped. Though I still had the problem. Next, I tried the MAF cleaner, and it was awesome at first, lower idle and smooth sounding engine, but the hesitation creeped back. Next, I'm going to buy some ramps and replace the O2 sensors.

Comments about CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner, 11 oz.:

My '97 Mercury Tracer (Ford Escort) wagon was having wildly fluctuating idle speeds for no reason - up to 2,500 rpms!! It was as if someone flipped a switch on & off: normal idle or WHAM up to 2,500 rpms. After swapping parts to no avail (IAC Valve, TPS, checking and swapping out vacuum hoses, etc. etc.) someone suggested I try replacing the MAF sensor. Rather than spend lots of money on yet another part without guaranteed results, I tried this spray. After about 50-100 miles the problem was 99% GONE. I have since included spray cleaning the MAF sensor everytime I do an oil change, which is around every 3,000 miles. I know when I'm getting close to that 3,000 mile mark as the idle will begin to act crazy again, with a few shots of CRC MAF spray the car will calm down...

My Volvo XC90 with 145K miles was triggering fault codes regarding the air flow/fuel mixture and the idle was noticeably uneven. After removing the MAF sensor and cleaning it with this product, replacing, and adding a new air filter the idle is now noticeably much smoother. I don't anticipate seeing those codes any longer. A great inexpensive maintenance job that you can do yourself.

Happy to answer your question Susie! This type of cleaner is usually for heated element mass air flow sensor. Your Rav4 has a MAP sensor so it has no element to clean.

I'm glad to help you, Bunzor! Carefully remove the mass air flow sensor from the air duct and disconnect the electrical connector. Spray 10 to 15 spurts of the cleaner onto the wire or plate. Don't scrub the parts, you may break the wire or damage the plate. Allow the MAF sensor to dry completely before reinstalling it in the air duct.
