Check Vehicle Fit

A1 CARDONE Remanufactured Steering Gears are the component within a car’s steering system that guides the wheel’s movement in conjunction with the direction that the steering wheel is rotated, helping achieve ideal steering response for more efficient driving. The micro-finished surfaces of it's shafts are precision-designed to provide a smoother drive, while the factory-set Pitman shaft transmits the motion it receives from the gear box by moving the wheels left or right to turn the wheels. OEM grade O-rings and seals are used and meet required specifications, providing you a quality product both you and your vehicle can rely on.

Product Features:
  • 100% computerized hydraulic testing measures for proper flow, leakage and performance to ensure perfect fit and function
  • 100% new O-rings and lip seals ensure no leaking and long-lasting performance
  • All critical components (campacs, spool valves, etc.) are triple-tested to ensure product reliability
  • Units are supplied with 100% tested and calibrated pressure relief valves for guaranteed performance
  • Shafts are surfaced to precise specifications to eliminate premature seal wear and extend gear life
  • Rust inhibitive "Cool Dip" finish is a penetrating dye that completely covers all exposed surfaces for a consistent, protective finish that will not crack, flake or peel
  • Guaranteed fit and function
  • Meets or exceeds O.E.M. performance

Incorrectly Remanufactured, but works

By

Pros

  • Doesn't Leak

Cons

  • Reassembled Wrong

Best Uses

Comments about Cardone Power Steering Gear - Domestic:

I decided to buy a remanufactured box instead of rebuilding the one already in the car (an '84 Monte Carlo SS) to make it a quicker repair to replace the original steering box (which was beginning to leave small puddles on the garage floor).

However, the time I saved by buying the reman'd box was negated by the fact that the input shaft was clocked 90 degrees off of where it should have been. Thus, the flat spot on the steering shaft and the 4 spots on the output shaft did not line up and I was forced to dismantle the steering column to reclock the locking ring so that my steering wheel would not be 90 degrees off. It's not that hard to mark the case and the shafts to ensure proper alignment upon reassembly, but who ever rebuilt it obviously didn't care.

This is the last remanufactured steering box I plan on ever buying. No reason to pay more for the same headache.

On the plus side, the box feels good on the road and doesn't leak. Also, it's actually the 12.7:1 quick-ratio box, not a generic 'whatever' ratio box that some parts stores will sell you because they don't know the difference.

Comments about Cardone Power Steering Gear - Domestic:

Installed this unit in a third gen camaro. Steering box LLT warranty requires replacing power steering hoses. This is a good idea and should be included in Advance Auto How to section. Hint, don't forget to chase/clean out bolt holes before installing. Another hint, don't cheap out on pitman arm puller or you will need a replacement puller.
