Comments about 3M Liquid Scratch Remover (8 oz.):

I have some scratches in the paint that do not look very deep I'd like to remove. I applied the 3m 3 times following instructions and it did not remove them. This ended up being a waste of money for me.

It has become very evident that 3M company is both
a competitor and leader in Auto Body and Detailing
products. They are committed to win.
Before you automatically go to the old quality standby, Maguires, Rethink. You may be very surprised.

Hi Rickey, I'm glad to help you! This 3M Liquid Scratch Remover - Part No. 39044 is never tested on aluminum wheels. To remove surface oxidation on your aluminum wheels, I recommend using 3M Mag and Aluminum Polish #39529. But, this is not sold on AdvanceAutoParts.com. I recommend checking with your local store for availability.

As with any of the products in the 3M line, this compound works great if used properly. I own a detail shop, and have been color sanding and buffing with 3M products for over 25 years. I would first recommend lightly wet sanding the area with first 1500# wet dry 3M sanding sheets, followed up with 2000 grit. KEEP THE PAPER WET! After you have removed the scratches, the paint will appear chalky. This is due to the removal of the scratches. you must then compound the area using the scratch remover. It requires an extensive amount of elbow grease, but dont give up, because soon you will be able to shave in the finish. Work small areas at first, until you are comfortable with the results. Always follow up with a good quality wax of your choice. Good luck!

I need to get rid of/cover up long (3" to 4") scratches that look like they were made by the keys dangling. The scatches are down to the primer. Is this the correct product?

                A:

If the scratches are down to the primer, I don't believe that this will help. You will most likely be better of finding touch up paint matching the same color of your vehicle.

No, This product is too fine of an abrasive. To recondition headlights, you need to remove the surface damage (yellowing)of the plastic lens. Then polish the new surface to clear again. The headlight repair kit has the sanding disks and polish designed just for headlight repair
