A transfer case is a vital component of today’s highly complex AWD drivetrain systems, and the failure of its components such as the transfer case motor, clutches, and bearings is a definite reality. Its job is to constantly synchronize the difference between the rotation of the front and rear axles. Problems arise when this difference in front to rear rotation slips outside of predetermined parameters due to uneven front to rear tire wear, for instance.
