The Starter Solenoid is the relay of the starting circuit that carries the high amperage required when the starter motor is engaged. The solenoid is typically energized by the starter switch when commanded by the vehicle operator. The starting system consists of the rotating electrical motor and solenoid which may be mounted on the starter motor or mounted remotely. The electric motor drives a gear which engages with the engine’s flywheel located at the rear of the motor, when the motor is energized, the motor will turn the engines crankshaft. An alternator is a voltage generator that uses mechanical energy to rotate a set of magnets within a field of windings called a stator. The alternating current (AC) voltage created by the spinning magnetic field is converted into a usable direct current (DC) voltage with a rectifier and then regulated by a voltage regulator so that the voltage level in the electrical system stays within a specific operating range.
