My car is running now. Thats A GOOD THING!
From LaGrange, GA
I bought this model to replace the OEM one that wouldn't rotate, just extend the bendix gear. When I first picked up and installed this starter on my wife's 2002 Mazda Millenia 2.5L the actual starting of the vehicle was great. The only issue is that the starter gear doesn't retract in a timely fashion and binds on the flywheel. I returned the first starter and received another and installed it. Same issue as the first. When manually actuating the bendix gear on the replacement starter you can feel a lot of binding and the return rate of the gear is slow. Comparing this to the OEM is night and day. The OEM has no binding and returns very quickly. I ended up disassembling the OEM starter and cleaned all the contacts and regreased the gears. Stock brushes were still fine. No problems after reinstalling the OEM. Please add bendix gear return rate to your supplier's quality checks, otherwise you will continue to get bad reviews like mine.

This starter failed exactly 1 week after it was installed on my wife's 2000 Mazda 626 and left her stranded way out in the country. I tried to explain to the manager of my local Advance that morning the starter was starting fail and according to other online reviews, other people were having problems with this starter. All though Advance will refund me the cost of the starter, they won't refund labor even though it only lasted a week. Now I'm out another $140 in labor and tow fees to have another starter installed, plus the cost of a new starter. Advance really needs to check into the quality control where ever they remanufacture this starter, cause its junk that's costing people time and hard earned money they don't have. I'm contacting corporate to see if any can help me, if they don't and Advance is going to sell parts that only last a week, I may have to find a new parts supplier.
